Jonás García is a graphic designer and photographer from Valencia, Spain. Jonás’s work captures more then just frozen moment in the life of the people he portrays: by overlapping exposure and adding light leaks Jonás takes the images from reality into a dreamworld. His work made me think of a quote by Susan Sontag, who wrote in her book On Photography:
“All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.”
Jonás takes the idea of capturing a person frozen in time, yet by the effects takes them out of this world, out of this reality. Some of his work seems to show a Dystopian reality, where others display places that are harder to define.
You can find more of Jonás’s work on his Flickr, Facebook page and Instagram. Enjoy!
Thanks for reading. What do you think of Jonás’s work?
