Victorian inspired embroideries by Carrie Violet (Memorial Stitches)

Two months ago, when I featured embroidery artist Adam Pritchett, I was joking about making embroidery a category here on Bleaq. Well, I think I might have to, since I came across yet another fantastic artist that uses embroidery as preferred technique! Carrie Violet, also know as Memorial Stitches, is an artist from the North of England who creates enchanting, embroideries inspired by the Victorian era. The Victorians are well known for their love of memento mori, a theme that serves as a red thread (pun not intended) throughout Carries work.

With Memorial Stitches Carrie creates heirlooms, small pieces of art that people can keep and cherish forever. Carrie on her work:

“Memorial stitches is inspired by Victorian sentiment, the aesthetics and mood of that particular time in history. I think of the pieces I create as heirlooms, something permanent that will become more beautiful as they age, with sun-stained patches and loose threads after a hundred years or so.”

You can find more of Carrie’s work on her website, Facebook page and Instagram. Enjoy!
