Every once in a while I find myself looking at an artist’s work and wish I’d be able to crawl through my computer screen and admire the pieces of art in person. Recently I had that feeling again whilst looking at the portfolio of Patrice ‘Pit’ Hubert, a sculptor from France. Patrice creates gigantic, organic shaped metal sculptures that will probably be breathtaking to experience in real life.
With natural, organic shapes and curved lines you wouldn’t be surprised to learn Patrice’s work is often describes as neo art-nouveau. Whilst a first glimpse might think the emphasis should be on art nouveau, a second glimpse will learn you it should actually be on neo; these sculptures move! The video’s of Patrice’s work in action make me think of the gorgeous design of the alien breeding grounds Giger designed for the Alien films. I recommend to take a look at Patrice’s YouTube channel to see more of the sculptures found below in action, especially the ones taken by night are crazy beautiful.
You can find more of Patrice’s work on his website and many detail shots on his Flickr page. Patrice recently opened a museum in the small village of Rochefort-en-Terre in Brittany, France, make sure to check it out if you’re around. Enjoy!
Thanks for reading! What do you think of Patrice’s work?
