Bleak portraits of architecture and landscapes by Mark Thompson

mark-thompson-intro
As I’m writing this it’s one of het hottest days of the year: it’s been 34 degrees Celcius (93 Fahrenheit) and I spend most of the day hiding from the burning sun. I can’t think of a better way to cool off a little than with these lovely, winter-inspired paintings by artist Mark Thompson. Mark is originally from England and now lives and works in Germany. I can see how his European heritage influenced his work: I recognize the desolate cities and their architecture. The frozen roads into nowhere show a beautiful Europe in winter. I love this desolate, sad portrayal of winter, it makes me long for the cold days.

I recently watched the Dystopian film Snowpiercer, where the only people who survived a failed climate exchanged board a giant train racing through the cold. Mark work’s is a perfect match for the mood of the film – if you like his work make sure to check out the film. Enjoy!
