When I first encountered one of the works of Indonesian Roby Dwi Antono on the Behance network, I immediately fell for the cuteness of his pieces. A few moments later I discovered the macabre twists in his works, and Roby’s profile was bookmarked :) His work make me think of the art of well-known Mark Ryden (who I have not written about yet, shame on me!) and it turns out that Roby names him as one of his biggest influences. Nevertheless these works aren’t easy copies, they have a vision of their own and look absolutely fantastic. Cute and macabre, what more do you want? Enjoy!
Thanks for reading! Do you think cute and creepy are a good match?
[…] I’m a big fan of the ‘creepy and cute’-combination (remember featured artists Tom Bagshaw or Roby Dwi Antono?) and just couldn’t keep these beautiful images from you. […]
My work has been called creepy..but I believe in the aesthetic, and believe it has relevance in a topsy turvy world where anything and everything is valid. Consumerism is guided by the masses who no longer need patronising by conservatism.
