Charcoal is not an easy tool to use. It smudges easily, it will get on every part of your canvas you don’t want it to be and your whole body, working space and pets (sorry, this might be a small personal reference) will be covered with black smudges. But hey, you have to suffer to make great art, right?! ;) But if you see what you can do with charcoal you’ll know why this is still such a popular technique. Reece Jones’ work for instance. Reece’s dark charcoal landscapes are illuminated by alienesque light sources, which give these dark images a beautiful eerie feel. Enjoy!
