The vigorous heroes and heroines of Jel Ena

jel-ena-intro
Mostly when you say an artist has an recognizable style it’s due to colour, technique or composition. None of these apply to Serbian born artist Jel Ena’s work though… Jel has both super colourful and very pale coloured work, makes oil and acrylic paintings as well as drawings, and tries out all kinds of sizes and formats as a frame. What ties her work together is her theme: Jel displays vigorous heroes and heroines with a piercing look and an enigmatic story to hide. This theme really gets me, and I love the diversity in Jel’s portfolio. Enjoy!

  • Okay, I swear I will stop this assault of comments in a second, but good grief! I am head over heels in love with Jel’s style! I love the dramatic elements in her faces, especially around the eyes! That warrior Alice clutching the rabbit by the neck is nothing short of inspired. I could look at her work all day. The combination of the beautiful and the bizarre is perfection itself!

    • Haha, no worries, your comments are much appreciated! I agree with your take on the faces, Jel gives these women an intriguing, piercing look. If you’re not looking at them all day they will make sure to look at you… ;)
